A tribute to the most iconic tweed combos of all time! The new Dr. Z PHD combines those iconic Princeton and Harvard amp voices but with the good doctors own spin on them, hence the name PHD! This amp has a much larger voice compared to those vintage tweed combos. It takes pedals very well and is more than loud enough for most small gigs. You can mic it up to make it the perfect gig or studio combo.

From Dr. Z
The PHD: a true class A, single-end amplifier pushing 10 watts of Z power through a single KT66 power tube with an octal 6SL7 preamp tube. Big bottles! No small tubes here, big bottles, big tone, but small package as we release this amp in a red 1x10 cabinet with salt & pepper grill, weighing under 30 lbs. Black heads with salt/pepper grill are also available.
The aim for this amp came from approaching the ever popular low-wattage combo market of tweed Champs, blackface Princetons, and even looking to rarer amps like the tweed Harvard and making improvements on these designs. There’s still the raunchy class A distortion character of taking a single power tube to the brink, but with both big bottle tubes in this amp, we get a broader bandwidth with greatly improved headroom for pedalboard players. Unlike many of these smaller amps, I wanted to make sure the PHD was not a one-trick pony and could be utilized clean, wound up and rocked out, and all shades in-between. It has a simple, short signal path with just three controls: volume, tone, master, and is married up to a highly resonant 1/2” ply 1x10 cabinet in red with salt/pepper grill loaded with a WGS G10 C/S 10” speaker.
