PRS Amps
PRS built its reputation on guitars, but anyone who has spent time behind one of their amps knows the same obsession with materials and circuit design carries straight over. The amplifiers HVG stocks sit in PRS's import lineup, designed in Stevensville, Maryland, and built to a spec that punches well above the price point. That's not marketing language; it's the honest read after time with each one.
The HDRX 20 is the most historically focused of the three: a 20-watt head running 5881 power tubes, with its circuit built around careful study of a Hendrix touring amp from the late '60s. It does clean and bloom better than it does grind, and it rewards a good Strat or semi-hollow more than a high-output humbucker rig. Pair it with the included 1x12 cab and you have a complete, gig-ready setup.
The Archon 50 takes the opposite approach: a two-channel, 50-watt 1x12 combo built around 6CA7 tubes with five gain stages on the lead channel. From classic rock breakup to full saturation, this is PRS's most versatile amp. The DGT 15 is David Grissom's 15-watt single-channel combo with EL84s, onboard reverb and tremolo, and a Celestion Vintage 30 already in the box. For a feel-first, vintage-platform player, there's nothing like it at this price.
